Empower To Act Masterclass Recap: Climate Action Made Simple – How Youth Can Lead Change

The masterclass Series officially began with an inspiring first session led by Ambinintsoa (Ambi), Founder of ECOCOCO, on September 27. This masterclass marked the start of a three-part journey under the Empower2Act initiative – designed to help youth explore real-world opportunities, resources, and career pathways in the social impact space.

The series aims to bridge knowledge with action, bringing together entrepreneurs, innovators, and changemakers who are redefining impact through creativity, technology, and purpose.

Session Recap: Climate Action Made Simple

In her session, “Climate Action Made Simple – How Youth Can Lead Change,” Ambi shared her journey of building ECOCOCO, a Madagascar-based venture transforming coconut waste into clean energy solutions. Drawing from 12+ years of experience across environment, public health, and humanitarian programs, Ambi highlighted how small, consistent steps can drive large-scale change.

She walked participants through the challenges and lessons learned in transitioning from corporate work to entrepreneurship, emphasizing that “every challenge is an opportunity to grow.” Ambi also showcased the tangible impact of ECOCOCO – from creating over 120 local jobs to reducing deforestation and turning waste into income for communities in Madagascar.

The session concluded with a practical guide on careers in climate and sustainability, outlining paths in policy, research, education, green startups, and corporate sustainability – giving participants a clearer sense of how they can take their first step toward climate action.

Global Participation & Meaningful Engagement

The event saw participants from across the globe, all bringing their perspectives, curiosity, and energy to the conversation. The Q&A segment reflected just how deeply the topic resonated with the audience.

Some of the standout questions included:

  • “If someone here wants to combine climate action with another passion, like design, AI, or education, what advice would you give?”
  • “How did you handle the situation when you transitioned from corporate to startup founder?”

These thoughtful questions captured the heart of the session – curiosity, ambition, and the drive to make a difference.

Takeaways & Reflections

Participants left the session with a renewed sense of purpose and practical insights into the climate action space. From understanding local community empowerment to discovering funding and incubation opportunities such as PIM’s InnovImpact Incubator, the Tony Elumelu Foundation, and Youth Opportunities, the talk offered a roadmap for turning ideas into impact.

Ambi’s message was clear: Start where you are, use what you have, and take that first step – because every action counts.

Closing Note

The masterclass continues in November with the next session, featuring another inspiring changemaker from the PIM community. Stay tuned to discover how young innovators are driving solutions across different impact spaces – and how you can be part of this movement.
